Breaking All The Rules

Looking to the past is a great way to inform your present work, especially in the world of design. Sister Corita Kent was an artist and designer with religious and social justice leanings, who used these leanings to inform her pop art inspired screen printing work. After doing weeks of research about Sister Corita Kent, I chose to use her process-driven work, activist leanings, and bright color palettes as inspiration. My research became a rule book for designers who want to follow in her footsteps. The book tells her story while the cards use a diverse group of present-day activists to inspire and remind the reader of the work that needs to be done. To tie it all together, the book and the cards can live together in a box that is branded to match them, and creates a kit for young artists and designers to learn about Corita and contemporary social issues.
